18/08 - 19:13:25 - Caro National: New from CHILE!! A resume of my last days in Europe
Helloooo everybody!
After two weeks of complete silence I have decided to return here and do a new update! The layout of the site doesn't really apply to the actual circumstances anymore
but ah well, I'll see if Michiel has the time to change it a bit
So! That last little update was made the day I left, August 4th... what happened the days before that?
It all started with the first "goodbye's" which we all prefered to call " see you later's"
. I met wonderful people and it was so hard when they all slowly started to leave until the only one left was me.
The first people to leave were Elodie and Thibault, the frenchie couple. They left in the middle of June. Some updates ago I talked about that. After them, about 3 days later it was Anne's turn, another frenchie. And then Frederic, another Frenchie. Which left Thomas as the only Frenchie left in our group. But that didn't exactly mean that he'd have no more people to speak French with!
After that, in the middle of July, next one to leave was Florence, my dear belgian friend
. Of course, her and Hervé came both from Brussels and hence both spoke French
. Flo and Hervé had been busy during those days writing their Thesis. And when they were done, or almost done, Flo organised a nice grill party in the yards of her dormitories (pictures will be added
) to celebrate that she was done and also to say bye to all of us. She had asked me to prepare a typical chilean drink I had talked about: Pisco Sour. So she bought pisco, I brought the lemons and prepared it. Of course, everyone liked it
That day was really nice, the weather was beautiful, there was a little pool outside and a lot of people had come. It was great
. I already talked about this party in my last update about Berlin and Bright Eyes... but in this update I want to remember all the people who were leaving.
So...after Flo left, I was away a lot, first to Berlin and then to the Netherlands (for the Brian meetup
).
The Brian meetup was GREAT
! On the 22nd Poly and her dad picked me up in Cologne and took me to Maastricht
. So I stayed at Poly's that night. The next day she had to work, but I stayed at her place.... in her room
as usual I didn't dare to go downstairs to see her mum...cause well I'm shy!!!
. So then she arrived, I had already showered and was ready to go!
Her mum brought us to the train station, first we picked up Mechteld (she's really ncie btw
) and then we jumped on the train!
AFter about two hours we arrived in Utrecht and headed to the Trefpunkt. And there was Brian, Ayla, Jasper, Frank, Collins (brian's friend) and Wam. After we arrived, Hester arrived as well. I gave Brian a hug
, altho he was a bit quet at first
I guess it was too much emotion
.
Afterwards we went walking around a bit and then sat somewhere in the centre in Utrecht. Brian had brought a t-shirt and we all signed it
and in the end he gave it to me, which was so nice
. But I thought it was unfair I got a signed t-shirt and he didn't! So I said we all should sign the t-shirt he was wearing, which conveniently enough, was completely white
. So we all signed it and people who were passing by were looking at us in a weird way
Later we went to uhmmmm... what was the name of it? Help! Well it was some fair or little amusement park. We baked Poffertjes (sp??)
some nice typical dutch (??) pastries. Later we rode a crazy merry go around thing...is that the name? And I sat there with Wam
.It was fun cause there was a man moving the thing too and making us spin around!
That was way cool! Then we sat somewhere where kids were making ice creams by cycling static bikes... or something
after a while we started getting hungry and we looked for the restaurant where Hester, Michiel, Japke, Wam, Ayla and I ate together during my first time in Utrecht
*sigh*... it's so amazing to think back... I love what I have, those are all MY experiences an even tho they're in the past, I lived all of it and no one, NOT ONE , can take them away from me
. So even though I miss all of you guys, we had a great time together and it's in us now
. And I'm sure we'll meet again.
Before finding the restaurant, I demanded to find an Albert Heijn so I could get some dutch candies to bring back to Chile
We found the restaurant!
I think it's called Mr. Jack? well something like that
I ordered the same thing I had ordered exactly, well almost exactly, 5 months ago: Tuna Pizza!
Dinner was great, we laughed so much. And Brian was a sweetheart and he payed for our second round of drinks! And he was just like I imagined he would be
. It was amazing to meet you, or like Cal would say: FABULOUS!!!
Mechteld, Poly and I had to leave around 9, because we couldn't be later than 11 in Maastricht. So Ayla went on the same train with us. It was time for new "see you later's"
. Before we went for dinner, Wam was the first one to leave... I didn't want to let her go
so I kidnapped her arm for some minutes
and then, well, she left
. Waaaaaaaammie.
And then after dinner, the rest of the group walked us over to the train station. I didn't want it to end
I hugged Hes and Brian very tight
and then the others too, which also made the day nicer
Aaaahhhh it was great!!!
.
The four of us went in the train and kept waving at them through the window....until the train started moving and then they were all running next to it until we faded away...
hehe but it was nice
After about 45 minutes or something, Ayla was the next to leave the train, cause she had to take another one to go to Oosterhout....or was it a bus? Well she had to change
. And I didn't want her to
. Ayla and I had a special bond which is Bright Eyes! hehe, but we also developed a cool connection, we always talked a lot, so I knew I'd miss her a lot too!! I gave her one last tight hug and then she left!
and according to her she kept staring at our window before the departure of the train...but I didn't see
The three of us continued our way to Maatricht, talking and laughing on the train
.
We arrived in Maastricht and Poly's father picked us up, we dropped Mechteld home and then continued the way to Poly's.
Sunday afternoon we visited Mecht for a moment and then Poly and her dad took me back to Germany, only this time they left me in Düsseldorf
Poly! I miss you little dutch sister!
It was incredible to be in the netherlands and to meet you! And we'll meet again, I'm sure
They left me on my train to Dortmund. And then I waved at them from it.
I dropped a couple tears, but I was so happy at the same time to have met all these people!!!!
you all rock so much. I wish I could gather all my friends in one place instead of having them spreaded all over the world
but at the same time I feel good for that cause the world feels much smaller now
After that...I knew things could only get sadder and sadder...
The night I arrived I started taking things off my walls and packing my bags. Thomas came by, I gave him a very tight hug!
and he said the group would meet at Muckefuck for the last time... I was really tired, but there were people I had to say bye to...for which I wasn't feeling ready, but I had to.
We arrived a bit late, so when we walked in the bar Eaming was leaving, she had tears in her eyes...I gave her a big hug
...Eaming was so cool and nice! She was going to France the next day, so she had to say bye to a lot of people too. That was sad
Then we stayed inside with Herve, Jared, Lynsey, Gerrit-Jan, Nicky... and I was wondering where Nikki was! And then she suddenly called to Thomas' cellphone saying she couldnt be there that night and that she was leaving to Berlin very early the next day, so she wouldnt come back to Dortmund after that... I said I'd meet her early in the morning the next day (monday) to say bye
So, it was getting late...and they were closing the bar... so...
I said bye to Lynsey, cause she was leaving monday. And to Gerrit-Jan, cause I wasn't sure I'd see him again. Lynsey was the sweetest, she's great, pretty and nice. I added her to msn now, so I hope we stay in touch
.
So, the next day I got up early to go to the parking lot to say bye to Nikki
she had an envelope with her name and address which she gave to me... so I'll write her a letter as soon as I can
. We hugged for a moment and then Thomas came to the parking lot too. We had a grouphug
and then she left
...her and Flo were like my closest Dortmund friends I'd say... but in general, all of us were a group, it was so great
I feel so lucky to have met all of them!!!!
After that, me and Thomas went back to our appartments to keep packing... next people to leave were Herve and Jared
. Jared was gonna take the flight back home from Brussels, and Hervé's dad was gonna pick Hervé up, so they'd take him with them.
They left tuesday afternoon, around 2 or 3pm. Nicky was also there, and I wasn't sure I'd see her again, so I said bye to her too. And to Hervé and Jared
.. and then they went away and Thomas and I stayed again in the parking lot... we just looked at each other, with sad eyes... we knew we were next and were not looking much forward to it.
Next day, wednesday the 27th both of us had to give back our keys to the hausmeister. That night we'd both sleep in Cal's kitchen and go to Paris very early on thursday. There I'd stay with Thomas two days and come back by bus on saturday...alone
*Sigh*...this is hard guys! I like remembering but it's starting to get me sad..
...but let's go on!
So! The last Dortmund person we'd say bye to was Cal!
Thomas and I thought it was cool. He arrived that night from Berlin (he had been there with his mum) and we were already settled in his kitchen hehehe
We gave him a hug and he didn't look sad at all, I always liked that about him, always smiley and cheering hehe. Then he went to bed, and so did we.
Next morning we got up around 6am and left the dorms around 7...
I was veeeeery sleepy, so I slept a bit in the car, while Thomas was driving. After a few hours we were already in France! And we made a stop somewhere in the highway to have something to eat. There were loads of bugs!
so we didn't stay long hehe. Sorry Thom!
It took us about 6 hours to finally be in Paris. And then we had to find his cousin's apartment. It was a bit rainy, so we stayed inside for a while and then later we went walking around Paris! First he took me to Notre Dame...funnily enough I didn't realise it was it until he told me hehe
and then we walked around some other random places...and some others that aren't that random
I just cannot remember all the French names! but I'll upload a few pictures
The next day, his cousin arrived from her trip. She was sooooooooooooo nice and she happens to be an English teacher, so she has a very cool brittish accent!
she made me feel really comfortable and seemed quite happy to meet me!
That day, friday, Thomas took me to the Eiffel tower (of course) and then the ermmmmmmmmm well I don't know exactly what you call it in english, but well, we say Arco del Triunfo
And then some nice avenue (Champs something
)with shops and stuff and we walked in a very veeery big music shop, it was so cool. And it was past 10pm but it was open til 12am! And they had a lot of Bright Eyes
After that we went outside and sat on a bench... and then the drama started...
well at least from me.. I couldn't stop thiking about what was going to happen less than 20 hour later... so some tears fell from my eyes...and for the first time he cried a tiny bit too. I had cried before, but I never saw him cry. Well... it was completely normal...I couldn't stop thinking about it anymore, like i did other times.
Anyway, after a moment we got up and went back to his cousin's flat. The day was very very nice
But the crying went on during the night too
Next morning I woke up feeling a bit better... buit it was just a shield I was wearing.
My bus was gonna leave around 3pm. We had breakfast, I said bye to his cousins
and then we went to the station.
And there the crying didn't stop anymore until I got on the bus. While waiting for the bus to be there, we sat together and used up quite some tissues hehe for our poor eyes. After the bus was there and they started calling the people, he went there with me... and like, 5 seconds before going inside the bus, I took off my necklace, the one I've been wearing since I'm 14 and I gave it to him and said " I want you to take care of this" and he took it and well, he felt sad cause he didn't have anything to give to me, but it was ok. He had given me love and that's what matters the most.
And then...phew... I sat by the window and we were staring at eachother, still crying, until the bus started moving...that was such a torture
cause the bus started moving once and I thought "ok, this is it!" and then after two meters it stopped
argh that was so horrible. And he kept looking at me and holding my necklace in his hand
and and.. argh...it was so sad...
The a couple minutes later the bus moved again...and this time it didn't stop... I kept looking through the window until I couldn't see him anymore...
...and then layed back on my seat and cried and cried...luckily no one was sitting next to me.
I was about 8 hours on that bus... I did calm down for some hours but then cried again. I just didn't want to go back to Dortmund anymore, I was wishing I could just take a plane back to Chile right that moment. It was gonna be a major torture to be in that city, full of memories...but feeling empty. From that day on I'd stay at Philipp's place and study for my last exam. Those days sucked so hard. And they seemed so fucking long. Frank (Frankeeeh, Frankz0r, dushi
) wasnt able to make it to the Brian's meetup, but we wanted to say bye anyway, so he proposed to come for one day to visit me. That was so SO nice of him and it surely made one of those horrible days much much nicer
. So we met in Düsseldorf on monday, at the airport, cause then he could park his car there and not worry about looking for parking in the city. And he rode the Sky train!
He didn't like the city much hehe, but we walked loads and loads and also went to a few shops, looking for a Yoda action figure
. We couldn't find one
We also ate Donner Kebab and were confused about which was which
cause we ordered two different ones and then they brought them and were like
errr which is which! So I just grabbed the one that was easier to eat
hehe...and then he felt a bit sick so he couldn't finish his !
We got up and kept walking some, til we reacher the river, the Rhein. There we sat down again and talked some
.
Then it was almost time for me to go...so we started looking for the train station... and for a moment we were lost
... but then we finally found it!
we took the train and he got off at the airport station...I gave him a big hug and thanked him for coming and making my day!
Thanks so much dushi
and thanks for the bonbonblocs and the stroopwafels and keel pastilles
Then I sat down and thought...ok...no these last three days left are gonna be the worst ever...
And they kinda were, cause I had nothing to do, nothing. And I couldn't concentrate in studying... and I couldn't be much at the University cause everything, everything!! reminded me of Thomas and my friends. It sucked!!
Each day seemed longer than the previous one. And I was ashamed to talk to Philipp and his gf about how sad I was feeling. Still, it was super nice of them to have me at their apartment.
I called Thomas a couple times and I also emailed him.
Thursday was finally there! I first took my big suitcase to the airport in Düsseldorf to have it checked in. Then came back to Dortmund, took my exam, said bye to Philipp and took the rest of my stuff (quite a lot of hand luggage, about 5 pieces
) to the airport. I arrived there, I could hardly carry all my stuff!
I had too much hehe. Finally made it to the gates, hehe, and I was so afrai they'd say "hey!! your hand luggage cannot be that big, leave something here!
" but luckily they didn't
.
I sat on the plane and could finally rest. And I didn't feel so sad to go home. I actually wanted to, cause it didn't make much sense anymore to be there in dortmund.
First stop was in Frankfurt...phew... my poor hands were all red from carrying all those plastic bags
and I could only walk 3 steps and then sit...3 steps and then sit...and that airport is so HUGE!!
I finally reached my gate, I was all sweaty already hehehe and waited for the call.
Got on the plane and that was the last time I set foot in Germany...I read in Harry Potter 4 a lot
Then there was one stop in Brasil, but I didn't have to leave the plane, so I stayed inside...
and about 4 or 6 hours later...Chile!!
I grabbed all my stuff again, carried them a bit...I was wearing like 3 jackets!
they just didn't fit my suitcase
and finally after passing through security and stuff I saw my parents and my friend Daniela, who were all waiting for me
I got out, hugged them and asked for help, cause I simply couldn't carry all that stuff anymore
We went in my dad's car and started the way from Santiago to Quilpué, my home town
There Alvaro, Milka and my nanny were waiting for me
I hugged them tight!!!
And later that night we met at Alvaro's place with some other friends: Claudia, the other Claudia, Pancho, his gf Romi, PEdro (alvaro's brother) and Felipe. I was SO jetlagged hehe, so I was looking all sleepy, all night, but I had fun, we played a trivia board game
SO... this is quite a big update already!!!
And frankly, I could go on telling about my first chilean days...but let's leave that for the next one.
thanks for reading, hope it was fun!! And we'll meet again! I know it! And soooner than we think
lots of love
Caro
